Local IT Education

Basic Education refers to a whole range of educational activities that take place in different settings and that aim to meet basic learning needs as defined in the World Declaration on Education for All (Jomtien, Thailand, 1990). It thus comprises both formal schooling (primary and sometimes lower secondary) as well as a wide variety of non-formal and informal public and private educational activities offered to meet the defined basic learning needs of groups of people of all age. Bangladesh, there is still an ecumenical gap between urban and rural education systems, with many in rural areas simply not having access to technological advances like the Internet. Before the recent up-gradation, the Textile Industry Development Centre (TIDC) was a three-in-one type institute that provided training, testing, and technical counseling/trouble shooting services, enriched with highly qualified and experienced trainers. The centre was in practice to offer a range of need-based modular training courses (predominantly 1-2 weeks) to in-job professionals as well as foundation courses (3 months to 1 year) to newly recruited staff, covering issues of technology, engineering, quality, marketing and management.
